Police: 13 People Suffer Flash Burns at The Discovery Museum in Reno

Posted: Updated:
Authorities say 13 people were hurt Wednesday afternoon at The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum after a chemical reaction that caused a flash.

Nine of those people (8 children and 1 adult) were taken to Renown Regional Medical Center, while four people refused treatment for ‘flash burns.'

At this time, Renown authorities have indicated that only one child will remain in the hospital for observation and will likely be released tomorrow.

Roads around the museum should reopen by 7 p.m. Center Street from Stewart to Liberty Streets is closed.

The downtown Reno museum will remain closed for the rest of the day.

Authorities tell us air tests have come back negative showing no hazardous materials are in the air.

Reno Fire Department investigators are working with museum staff to determine what caused the chemical flash.
