Fundraiser Organized for Family Affected by Tragic Shooting

On July 19th, Anthony Cueva was putting his young son Aiden to bed when a shot rang out in his East Reno Neighborhood. A bullet flew through his window and the innocent bystander was killed. He was just 23 years old and had been training as a boxer, about to turn professional.

His fiance and two young children are now on their own.

"It's hard to talk about...even to talk about him," his fiance, Carolyn Flores says with her two young children near her.

"His mother has been a friend of mine since way back," said Tracy Vertucci. "And I was looking for a way to help when it came to me that we have the perfect arena here at Sports West."

Tracy works as the Sales Manager there and teaches kickboxing. So, she put her thoughts to work. "He was such a good kid and he loved those kids and he was just an innocent bystander when all this happened," Vertucci says. "Carolyn only got sick days off to deal with it all and they really could use the help."

"I'm not working right now because I really need to be home with my kids. And we do appreciate what people are doing for us," Flores says.

Vertucci has put together an aerobathon at Sports West for this Saturday to help.

"It goes from 10:30 until 12:30 and we will have half-hour sessions of hip hop, Zumba, Space Station training, kickboxing and yoga. We're only asking for $10 donations but people can give as much as they want. It all goes to the family so we can help them get on their feet again."
