Washoe County Hosting Animal Ordinance Workshops

Posted: Updated:
From Washoe County:

Washoe County Regional Animal Services is beginning several public workshops to get input from the community about proposed changes to the animal control ordinance, Washoe County Code (WCC) Chapter 55.

The existing ordinances were last updated in 2005. Changes to animal laws within the state have been made during the past two legislative sessions and the County is required to amend WCC Chapter 55 with those changes. A final document for presentation to the Board of County Commissioners is planned for October.

The first two public workshops will be held at Wilbur D. May Center at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park on Monday, Aug. 25 and Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 5:30 p.m. The first workshop, on Aug. 25, will cover dangerous dogs and exotic animals. On Aug. 27, we will discuss the retail sales and breeding of animals. The goal of the workshops is to hear the changes the public would like to see made to existing code.

What: Two workshops about proposed animal ordinance changes

When: Monday, Aug. 25, at 5:30 p.m. about dangerous dogs and exotic animals

Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 5:30 p.m., about retail sales and commercial breeding of animals.

Where: Wilbur D. May Center, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park  (1595 N. Sierra Street, Reno)

Additional workshops discussing nuisance and other topic areas will be held in September. Those unable to attend the workshops are encouraged to provide input online at Open Washoe.
