Training Local Health Care Workers

Posted: Updated:

A local non-profit released the results of a 14 month study on health worker employment here in the Silver State.

The "Health Care Jobs of the Future Task Force" was formed by the mayors of Reno, Sparks and Carson City back in 2013.

The group says that when there are job openings for medical professionals in Nevada, many times they are filled by hiring doctors from out-of-state instead of by hiring doctors locally. So, today the task force outlined plans to change that by changing the way doctors are trained here in Nevada.

“If we can identify jobs, where we can put people into good paying high paying jobs that are productive, I'm all about it and I think that it's something that's really exciting,” says Lance Bowen, Dean of Sciences, TMCC.
