Powerful Storms Come In Through Truckee Meadows

Posted: Updated:
The Truckee Meadows saw some powerful thunderstorms move in Monday, and it left some damage behind.

The wet weather definitely made some people want to stay inside, and that's especially true for those living in northwest Reno as they saw mudslides roll into their streets. It was caused by the heavy rain and even hail coming down in northwest Reno. There was also hail in Carson City.

"What's sad is I'm at work when it's down-pouring," said Victoria Crockett of northwest Reno. "I said, 'oh, we need the rain, this is great,' until 20 minutes when I get home... Not so great."

Residents spent hours cleaning up any mud that went into their yards, while city of Reno crews help out.

"For the last three hours, they've been going up and down the street," said Phillip Schultz.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Reno says this is one of the wettest summers our area has seen since around 2003.

"It's something you get once in awhile," said Jim Wallmann, meteorologist with the NWS Reno. "It's once every 10 years. Yeah, you're going to have a really wet monsoon year, and this happens to be one of them."
