A Sparks man is in custody after a early morning standoff with Sparks police that led to SWAT being called.

Sparks Police were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 300 block of 3rd Street on the report of a noise complaint just after 3 a.m. on Friday. Upon arrival police say they found a man armed with a baseball bat. When they tried to speak with him, they say he slammed the door on them.

The officers then walked a short distance away and heard the suspect yell. They approached the man from the rear, who was standing at the top of the stairway yelling to the floor below. As officers reached the top of the stairwell, they say they saw the man with his back turned to them, pointing a gun in the direction of the bottom story of the apartments.

Officers say they asked the man to drop the weapon, but he refused and went back inside the residence.

SWAT was then called and after negotiating with the man, they say he surrendered without incident. Police say a search warrant was obtained for the residence and the firearm was located inside.

27-year-old Kyle McClure is charged with obstructing with the use of a deadly weapon, challenging a fight with a deadly weapon and aiming a firearm in a threatening manner. He is being held on $30,500 bail at the Washoe County Jail.
