Barracuda Championship Boosts Business

Posted: Updated:
It’s the Barracuda Championship is this weekend at Montreux Golf and Country Club in Galena. With all of the players and spectators, area businesses are seeing the benefits of the tournament.

When pro golfers’ backs, hips or knees get a kind or a knot, Todd Eekhoff is their guy for the problem.

“I may get a phone call five minutes from now, or tomorrow, Saturday or Sunday with someone that needs to be seen that is having back, hip or whatever kind of pain they have,” said Eekhoff.

He does work with all types of athletes, especially golfers.

“I had one Monday morning who was playing the Monday qualifier and his back was hurting,” said Eekhoff. “I saw him at 6:30 a.m., so he could play.”

Another business that is benefiting this weekend: food trucks.

Burger Me has been at the golf tournament for two years now. Thursday, co-owner Tom Farina saw about 200 customers, with even more expected for the rest of the weekend.

“As we get into the weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, we expect it to be extremely busy and we’re excited,” said Farina.

Snow Still on Mount Rose, How Common Is It?

As of last week, all of the snow has melted off of the Mount Rose Ski Resort area itself, but on Mount Rose proper, there are still some patches of snow left. What might seem like a small piece from afar could actually be deep enough to ski on.
