Small Plane Crash on Pyramid Highway

Posted: Updated:
Authorities are investigating after a small plane crashed on Pyramid Highway the morning of Saturday, July 26th.

Allen Kenitzer with the FAA says that the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, but that the initial reports are that an experimental Thunder Mustang lost power while flying and was forced to try an emergency landing on Pyramid Highway. When landing, the airplane hit a pickup driving on the highway.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports that there were two people aboard the plane, and two people in the vehicle. Trooper Dave Gibson with the Nevada Highway Patrol reports that, though the plane burst into flames when crashing, everyone involved in the crash survived. Several of them had to be treated for minor injuries on scene, but no one was hospitalized.

Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. Pyramid Highway was closed for several hours near Axe Handle Road as officials cleaned up debris from the crash.

Kenitzer says that these are all initial findings, and that further investigation could reveal different information as officials piece together exactly what happened during the crash.
