Aces Fall at Salt Lake

 Aces Release

A four-run second inning wasn’t enough as the Aces dropped a back-and-forth affair, 7-6, to the Salt Lake Bees Monday night at Smith’s Ballpark.

Garrett Weber’s two-run single gave the Aces a 4-0 lead in the top of the second and extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Salt Lake would claw back with two runs in the third on Brennan Boesch’s two-run homer to right-field. They added three more runs in the fifth, chasing Aces starter Mike Bolsinger.

Luis Jimenez led off the frame with a solo homer, his 17th of the season. Two batters later, Boesch’s big night continued as he tied the game at 4-4 with an RBI-triple. After Bolsinger struck out two straight batters, former Ace John Hester doubled, scoring Boesch and knocking Bolsinger from the game.

The Aces went back on top in the sixth when catcher Blake Lalli drilled an opposite-field two-run blast. The big hit came after Mike Jacobs reached on an error by Jimenez to start the inning.

Jess Todd worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth, but troubled mounted in the seventh when Kevin Munson issued walks to C.J. Cron and John Buck. Hester was back at it again when he roped a two-out base hit up the middle to score Cron and even the game at 6-6.

Reno went quietly in the eighth inning, but Salt Lake did not. Joe Paterson struck out Tony Campana to start the inning, then allowed a single to J.B. Shuck.

Will Harris was summoned from the bullpen and promptly retired Jimenez on a fly out to right. After Cron singled to put runners at first and second, Boesch followed with his third hit of the night, an RBI-single to left to give the Bees a 7-6 lead.

Salt Lake reliever David Carpenter worked the ninth and retired the Aces in order. Dustin Richardson got the win in relief and Paterson was tagged with the loss.

Left-hander Andrew Chafin (3-4, 6.17) starts for the Aces in game two of the series Tuesday night. He is opposed by left-hander Wade LeBlanc (7-2, 4.31). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PST.
