Landsailing World Championship Held in Austin

Posted: Updated:
The 14th annual Landsailing World Championship was held in Smith Creek Playa near Austin in Lander County.

More than 40+ international Mini Yacht sailors from around the world competed in the races, which ended on Saturday. Several individual and teams competed in races.

Land yachts can go up to 60 mph, under the right conditions.

The championship is usually held in European countries, but this year, Nevada was chosen. In May, Nevada Ambassador of the North American Landsailing Association, Mike Grimm told us, “We have a lot of wind and a lot of dry lands. The fact that North American Landsailing Association got the schedule for the U.S. and here in Nevada? It’s pretty special.”
