The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the driver in Monday's fatal car accident on southbound Interstate 580 near the Galena Bridge.

The accident happened just after 2:30pm Monday approximately two miles north of Bowers Mansion in Washoe County.

Troopers say 95-year-old Dorothy S. Hunter of Gardnerville was heading south in a 2007 silver Kia Rio when for some unknown reason she hit the concrete wall on the left shoulder, bounced off, went across all three southbound travel lanes, and then hit the concrete wall on the right with its front.

The Rio came to rest in two left lanes of southbound I-580.

Hunter died on scene. Troopers say she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Troopers say speed, alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the accident.

No other vehicles are believed to be involved in the crash.

Trooper Douglas Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this accident. Witnesses or anyone else with more information about this accident can reach out to him at (775) 689-4623 or dhildebrand@dps.state.nv.us  regarding case number NHP-140701242.
