RENO, Nev. (AP) - Northern Nevada tourism officials say they've seen a significant spike in booking future conventions but continue to struggle with a cut in government meetings because of a misconception casino resorts cost more than other hotels.

The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority signed contracts last year for nearly 50 percent more rooms going forward than they did the previous year - 163,259 compared to 110,000.

RSCVA CEO Chris Baum said Monday it represents some "very positive momentum" on the heels of the first double-digit increase in overall taxable room revenues in more than a decade.

The new deals include a contract with Triple Crown Sports - an organizer of youth sports tournaments that has booked more than 22,000 room nights for four events planned in 2014-15.
