Northern California Wildfire Grows to 4,400 Acres; Destroys 8 Homes

Posted: Updated:
A wildfire in Northern California that authorities say was sparked by exhaust from a truck has grown to nearly seven square miles.

Fire officials said the Bully Fire in forested land in Shasta County had burned through 4,400 acres as of Monday morning. It remained 15% contained.

The fire has destroyed eight homes and is threatening 15 others.

Fire crews have been hampered by steep terrain and hot weather and expect temperatures to climb above 100 degrees again on Monday afternoon.

All evacuations have been lifted. A 27-year-old Sacramento man has been arrested on suspicion of causing the blaze.

Authorities say Freddie Alexander Smoke was delivering supplies to an illegal marijuana plot when his truck exhaust set off the fire.

Meanwhile, in Central California containment of a more than 2 and 1/2-square mile fire in the Sequoia National Forest increased to 60%. (AP)
