Thousands Lose Power in Northern Nevada

NV Energy is reporting several power outages in Northern Nevada that affected thousands of customers.

The largest was began just after 5 p.m. Tuesday near Glendale Avenue and Rock Boulevard that affected about 6,800 customers after the Glendale station near Greg and 21st Streets took a lightning hit. At the time of this update, about 140 customers don't have power.

Another two outages in Sparks affected more than 200 customers near Prater Way and Howard Drive. One outage began around 3:45 p.m. The other was reported around 5:30 p.m. but there is no estimate on when power would be restored. The cause of those outages are also under investigation.

An equipment failure knocked out power to about 187 customers in Sun Valley but power has since been restored.

Finally a small outage south of Gardnerville is affecting six customers. Power has been out since about 3:45 p.m. and there is no estimate on when it will be restored. The cause of the outage is under investigation as well.
