'Academic Gameplan' Creator Coming to Reno This Month

Posted: Updated:
A former University of Southern California football coach will be in Reno next week for a training camp. It is not the type of camp you may be thinking, however. Instead of mapping out X's and O's, John Baxter will be focusing on A's and B's. "I've always said that education is the only place where people don't demand their money's worth and it's crazy."

Coach Baxter created the Academic Gameplan, which includes strategies for studying, problem solving and how to create goals and accomplish them. He says these are priceless life skills that helped catapult his USC football players to the next level - academically. Baxter also authored I Hate School The Book and is now visiting high schools around the country teaching young people - and their parents – the principles in it. His primary goal is to help families get the most out of their child’s education. "Education is a mountain. We're not going to move it. We're not going to dent it. We're not going to complain about it. But what we are going to do is teach young people how to navigate it."

Baxter says this educational model is ideal for kids between 8th grade to college. He says, while sports and extra curricular activities are important, “People are hemorrhaging money on these summer travel leagues and camps for the athletic experience and a hope and a prayer that their kids will get a scholarship. And I’m offering them the cheapest insurance on a lifetime of skills.”

Coach Baxter’s training camp is July 15th and 17th from 4:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. at McQueen High School. The camp is valued at $500, but local students can register for $100. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend for free. Along with the Academic Gameplan seminars, you will also get schools supplies and additional online instruction (Semester Fast Start & Momentum Lessons) once school starts up again.

There are just three days left to register for this event. Log onto: http://www.academicgameplan.com/reno or call (775) 393-9881.
