Holiday DUI Checkpoint Planned for U.S. Highway 50

Posted: Updated:
Northern Nevada law enforcement agencies will be teaming up this Independence Day as an additional security measure in providing for a safe holiday weekend.

Throughout Friday afternoon and evening, law enforcement from across Northern Nevada will be conducting a DUI checkpoint of U.S. 50 in Douglas County.

Along with looking for people driving under the influence, officers will also be checking to make sure drivers and passengers will be wearing their seatbelts, and they will be watching for people who use their cell phones while driving.

Officers say if you are drinking, plan ahead and assign a safe and sober designated driver, or use public transportation.

The checkpoint is funded by a "Joining Forces" grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.
