Fire crews say lightning sparked five small fires across the eastern portion of Plumas National Forest in Northern California on Tuesday.

Four of the fires, between Dixie Valley and Frenchman Lake, were 1/10 to 1/2 acre in size with one (Dixie) at 5 acres.

All of the fires were quickly suppressed.

Firefighters say a sixth fire that started in a structure and spread to vegetation, was also quickly extinguished.

Backup firefighting resources have been strategically placed around the forest in anticipation of the hot, dry weather and holiday weekend crowds.
