Crews Battle 2,500-Acre Wildfire in Napa County

Posted: Updated:
Crews are battling a raging wildfire in rural Napa County that has burned more than 2,500 acres, damaged five structures and prompted mandatory evacuations.

State fire spokeswoman Stacie McCambridge says the fast-moving blaze began shortly before noon Tuesday in the Pope Valley area. The fire had burned 200 acres by 2 p.m. and spiked to 2,500 acres before 6 p.m.

Officials say state firefighters and crews from Napa, Lake and Solano counties spent the day working in 90-degree weather as they have contained about 30% of the fire.

McCambridge says that several residents living in two communities also have been evacuated as nearly 200 homes are being threatened.

Five structures have also been damaged.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.  (AP)
