New Earthquake Engineering Lab Opens at University of Nevada

Posted: Updated:
The University of Nevada held a grand opening on Tuesday for its new earthquake engineering lab.

The new lab includes four shake-tables and is now the only one in the country with so many, which can be configured in different ways.

They'll help study how to make buildings more durable during earthquakes

“This just represents a major, major leap forward in the capacity of this university to provide safety engineering for bridges and highways and components of buildings, to resist earthquakes,” says University of Nevada President Marc Johnson.

The new lab was made possible by a more than $12 million grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
