New Sewer Rates Effective July 1 for Sparks Residents

Posted: Updated:
From the City of Sparks:

Starting July 1, Sparks residents will see new sewer rates on their quarterly bill. The new rate affects only the sewer portion of the bill, not the storm drain, river flood or other rates.

For single-family residential customers, the change comes in the form of an 8.25 percent increase in the sewer portion of the sewer rate, which will translate to a rate increase of about $1.30 per month for most customers.

As for multi-family residences, such as apartments or other buildings with more than one unit, the sewer portion of the sewer rate will be calculated at 80 percent of the single-family residential rate. This translates to a decrease in the rate charged per unit by about $6.30 per unit.
Funds from the new sewer rate will continue to be used to maintain the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility, as well as the infrastructure necessary to maintain the city sewer system.

Along with these changes to the sewer rate, there has been a major upgrade to the software that is used to calculate, measure, and maintain sewer usage and service rates.  The upgrade allows City employees to be more responsive to customers needs and streamlines bill preparation.

When it comes time for resident’s to pay their sewer bill, the City of Sparks offers a number of options, from paying online or by phone to paying in person or by mail.
