Investigators: Illegal Fireworks Start House Fire in Sparks

Posted: Updated:
Investigators say illegal fireworks are to blame for a house fire in Sparks on Sunday night.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a burning juniper tree near the home, located on 9th Street. The fire also had jumped to the home’s exterior wall and through an attic vent on the roof.

Crews were able to stop the flames from entering the home.

Sparks police say witnesses stated they saw two people lighting fireworks in the alley behind the home, and then ran into some nearby apartments, around 8 p.m.

Investigators also say they found remnants of fireworks in the brush, but the people who lit the fireworks could not be found.

If you have any information on the people’s whereabouts, call Secret Witness at 322-4900 or text your tip to 847411 or go online to www.secretwitness.com

Firefighters say any type of fireworks that explode or fly in the air are illegal to have and ignite in Washoe Valley.
