Celebration of Life Held for Former Carson City Mayor

Posted: Updated:
Dozens of people gathered Friday morning inside a Carson City church to remember the life of former Carson City Marv Teixeira who died earlier this month at the age of 79.

Mourners gathered inside St. Theresa of Avila Church at 3000 North Lompa Lane. The Celebration of Life was open to the public.

Teixeira is the longest running serving mayor in the state capital's history. He served from 1989 through 1996 and then was re-elected in 2004. He retired in 2008.

He advocated the reintroduction of the V&T Railroad and flexibility in celebrating Nevada Day, an effort that led to a three-day holiday weekend each October. Nevada Day draws thousands of people to Carson City.
