Poll: Many Still Struggle to Pay Health Premiums

Posted: Updated:
Most people who signed up under President Barack Obama's health care law rate their insurance highly, but a substantial number of them are still struggling with the cost.

That's according to a survey released Thursday by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation.

The poll provides ammunition for both sides in the health care debate.

The Kaiser survey finds that the law is achieving its main goal of covering the uninsured.

Fifty-seven percent of the 8 million people covered through the new insurance exchanges were previously uninsured.

Despite generous subsidies available to many, 43% said they had difficulty paying their monthly premiums.

Coverage from employers gets much better ratings than the new health law plans.

Those plans are meant for self-employed people and for workers without access through their jobs.  (AP)
