Meteorology Conference Held in Northern California

Posted: Updated:
Meteorologists from across the country are meeting Northern California this week to discuss weather in different parts of the country.

Our own chief meteorologist Mike Alger spoke Wednesday at the 42nd conference on broadcast meteorology in Olympic Valley, California about what weather is like to forecast on the west coast.

Organizers say it's important for meteorologists to be knowledgeable in a wide variety of topics having to do with weather. "Everything from big dust storms, like we just heard a presentation on for haboobs, to how climate change is impacting that, to why the west coast has such distinct precipitation and temperature changes over such short distances," says Carrie Rose, Co-Chair, AMS Broadcast Conference.

Later this week they'll discuss heat and safety, forecasting techniques and climate issues.
