Final Preparations Underway for the Reno Rodeo

Posted: Updated:
The Reno Rodeo Rolls into town Thursday. Vendors and rodeo workers alike are working long days to make sure everything is ready.

“120 days ago, it seemed like an eternity away,” said executive director Steve Duque. “Right now it’s three days out and it’s full steam ahead.”

A lot of work is going on at the Reno Livestock Events Center during the next few days to make sure everything is ready by Wednesday.

Crews have done some work in the grandstands, painted the entire events center, and upholstered some of the seats.

The main arena can hold over 9,000 people, according to Duque, and some events are close to being sold out. He says this year, they are also assigning seats just to make sure everybody who buys a ticket can have a place to sit.

Inside the halls are nearly 300 vendors, the most the rodeo has ever seen.

Sandy Waldron has been a vendor at the rodeo for 32 years. She and her family make different types of candy. She says every year, the prep list remains the same.

“We’re unloading the big trailer,” she said. “Stainless-steel pots, cookers, stoves, sinks, all that good stuff. We’re going to make candy Wednesday.”
