Posted: Updated:
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office says a 15-year-old California boy died after being pulled from the American River on Friday morning.

Deputies say just before 11am on Friday they received a call advising a young man disappeared while swimming in the Middle Fork of the American River in the area of Cherokee Bar off of Sliger Mine Road.

Personnel from the sheriff's office, Cal Fire and a CHP helicopter responded to the area.

They say 15-year-old Ronald Stewart of Garden Valley was pulled from the water in the same area of the river as he was last seen in. Lifesaving efforts were initiated, but he died at the scene.

An exact cause of death is being investigated by the sheriff's office.
