The former teacher accused of murdering two people inside a vacant Sparks home appeared in court Thursday for a bail hearing.

A judge set his bail at $2 million.

73-year-old Wayne Burgarello is charged with first degree murder, and attempted murder in connection with the February shooting of 34-year-old Cody Devine and 29-year-old Jenai Wilson.

Burgarello discovered the duo inside a vacant duplex he owns on H Street in Sparks; he claims the shootings were in self-defense.

Court documents show both victims were unarmed at the time.

On Thursday, a judge set his bail at $2 million. He's currently being held in the Washoe County Jail.
