Gov. Brian Sandoval Wins Nevada Republican Primary

Posted: Updated:
Gov. Brian Sandoval has easily defeated four challengers in Nevada's Republican gubernatorial primary.
The popular governor advances to the general election in November, where he'll face the winner of an eight-way Democratic primary.
Sandoval's victory Tuesday was essentially assured. He faced no big-name challengers and collected campaign donations of more than $3.3 million. He also is expected to cruise to re-election in the fall after Democrats failed to recruit a viable candidate.
Sandoval left a lifetime appointment to the federal bench in 2010 to take on incumbent Republican Gov. Jim Gibbons. He then defeated Rory Reid, the son of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, in the general election to become Nevada's first Hispanic governor.
A rising star in the GOP, Sandoval is often mentioned as a possible challenger to Reid in 2016.  (AP)

Earlier Gov. Sandoval released this statement:

I am honored that Republicans from across Nevada have nominated me to lead our ticket into the general election. Serving as your governor is an honor and I look forward to campaigning for another four-year term.

I am committed to continuing Nevada’s Comeback. We must diversify and grow our economy so that every Nevadan that seeks full time employment will be able to find a job. We must build on the improvements in our education system so that every student has the opportunity to receive a world-class education right here in Nevada.

I ran for governor because I believed our state faced uncertain times and I run for reelection knowing that our state is on the right path and destined for a bright future.

I have the best job in the world and humbly ask Nevadans for their vote in November. Thank you again for allowing me to serve as your governor.
