Officer Involved Shooting Investigated in Silver Springs

Posted: Updated:
Lyon County deputies have arrested a Silver Springs man after they say he fought with a deputy on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say a deputy was conducting a follow up on a battery investigation in the 3700 block of Cypress Street in Silver Springs. When the deputy made contact with 32-year-old Florencio Brito, authorities say Brito became non-compliant with verbal commands from the deputy. They say Brito then battered the deputy and tried to run away. They say a taser was then used, however, it was not effective and Brito then showed a firearm.

One shot was fired during the incident, but as of right now, deputies haven't specified who fired the shot.

Brito was booked into the Lyon County Jail on the following charges: battery on a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.

His bail is set at $11,140.00.

The incident remains under investigation – and as per Lyon County Sheriff’s Office policy a concurrent internal administrative investigation is being conducted as well. The unidentified deputy has been placed on routine paid administrative leave.
