Light Turnout During Early Voting for Nevada Primary

Posted: Updated:
The Nevada secretary of state's office reports a light turnout during the two-week early voting period for Tuesday's primary election.

In the state's two most populous counties, nearly 7% of Clark County's 775,950 registered voters cast ballots during early voting that ended Friday, while 10.5% of Washoe County's 217,743 registered voters turned out.

More Republicans than Democrats voted early in both counties.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports turnout was higher outside Nevada's two major urban areas.

Pershing County led the state at 31%, followed by Carson City at 20% and Douglas County at 16.2%.

The secretary of state's office says statewide results will be released later Monday after results from Nevada's 17 counties are compiled.  (AP)
