Summer is here and a lot of people are outdoors enjoying it. But for people who have physical limitations, sometimes it’s hard to do things like bike riding, rock climbing and even kayaking. That was not the case Sunday at the Sparks Marina as the Mark Wellman’s Adventure Day took over.

It’s the tenth year of the event as the City of Sparks teamed up with different organizations to give people with disabilities the opportunity to try out new sports with the help of adaptive equipment.

Daniel Ortiz was left paralyzed after a car accident 13 years ago. He has wanted to try rock climbing. Sunday he got the chance to accomplish it.

“It’s a good experience, and we don’t get this chance often,” he said. “It’s nice.”

It wasn't just rock climbing but adapted bikes.

“We all have our own challenges in life, said Michael Hunter with Disabled Sports USA Far West. “Some of us have bigger challenges; some of us have smaller challenges.

Dozens kayaked in the marina too.  About 100 people participated in the fun including family members of the disabled.

96-year-old Gladys Bear rock climbed herself.

“I didn’t ever think I’d go up there,” she said. “It was along climb.”
