Sun Valley Elementary School Celebrates Campus Beautification

The students and staff of Sun Valley, along with the generous help of the Di Loreto family and All Seasons Landscaping, Inc., have been digging, painting, and pulling their way to a more gorgeous campus.

Last summer brought some big changes to Sun Valley as the school became part of the Acceleration Zone. Focusing on learning around a “Read, Write, Discuss” model, the students started digging deep into Common Core State Standards. Being the Sun Valley Lions, they wanted a way to show the “pride” they have in their school, so each class wrote proposals for cleaning up the grounds.

Students learned a lot about researching prices and writing a proposal that explained exactly what they wanted to accomplish. The Di Loreto family graciously took time to look at all of the proposals, and funded every single one! And then the work began, as each class took turns painting learning spaces and pulling weeds. All Seasons Landscaping, Inc. came in and donated time and materials to build a bigger and better garden.

Being involved in the process and helping improve their school grounds made lasting impressions on the students:

“Painting is energy for my legs and arms,” said Roberto Trujano, who is in third grade.

“It is fun to paint the ball wall because it was kind of plain and we needed decorations on it,” said Cyrus Shelton, from the second grade.

Fourth-grader Samuel Reyes said, “We added more plants so we look like the pride of Washoe County School District.”
