The FBI says a 48-year-old woman wanted in connection with her husband's murder was arrested Wednesday morning in Peru.

Authorities say 48-year-old Nazira Maria Cross murdered her husband in Plumas County, California. They say in July 2008 she poisoned him then drove him to Lovelock where the couple owned a ranch and buried him on the property.

While waiting for the autopsy results, police say Cross fled the country and had remained a fugitive until her capture today.

The United States has a pending extradition request for the return of Cross and will continue to work closely with Peruvian government authorities.

Cross’s federal fugitive poster has appeared on the Sacramento FBI’s website since 2008, when it was first distributed and both domestic and international media has profiled the international search for Cross. Due to recent rebroadcast of information about Cross, the FBI received information indicating that Cross was residing in Peru. The Nevada State Attorney General’s Office, Plumas County Sheriff’s Office, Reno Police Department, and Peruvian National Police all played vital roles in the apprehension of Cross.
