Nomination Deadline Extended for Governor's Awards

The nomination deadline for the 2014 Governor's Points of Light Awards has been extended to June 11, 2014 at 5 pm PST!  Nevada Volunteers, the Governor's Commission on Service, is seeking nominations for extraordinary volunteer efforts in Nevada.  Finalists will be recognized at the Governor’s Points of Light Awards ceremony, an official 150th Anniversary event on September 18th, 2014 at Bally’s Las Vegas Nevada.  
 
The six nomination categories are:
*             Northern Nevada Individual
*             Southern Nevada Individual
*             Rural Nevada Individual
*             Nonprofit and Community Organization Volunteer Program
*             Corporate and Business Volunteer Program
*             Volunteer Manager

The Governor’s Points of Light Award recipients are selected based on the following criteria:

*    Achievement: Nominee accomplishments are exemplary, far exceed expectations, and are measurable.
*    Need: Nominee addresses a need that was not previously met in the community.
*    Innovation: Nominee has applied a new solution to an existing social problem.
*    Mobilization: Nominee has empowered the community to support the program/event as demonstrated by quality and or quantity of volunteers. The service should result or present opportunities for mobilizing other volunteers.
*    Endurance: Nominee has developed a long-term solution to significant social issues through hands-on volunteer service. The service must be direct and ongoing, rather than a one-time activity, with the exception of short-term crisis situations.

It is our hope that communities share with us the individuals and organizations that serve as points of light in our state.  It is Nevada Volunteers distinct pleasure to recognize, with the Governor, these extraordinary individuals and organizations at this event,” said Amber Martin-Jahn, Nevada Volunteers Executive Director.
 
Nominations are due by June 11th, 5 p.m. PST and can be submitted at www.bit.ly/14GPOL. ; Individuals submitting nominations should be aware that finalists are to be in attendance at the Governor’s Points of Light event and travel arrangements will be covered by Nevada Volunteers.
