Lyon Deputies Identify Pilot Killed in Dayton Plane Crash

Lyon County deputies have identified the pilot killed in a plane crash found near the Dayton Airport on BLM land Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say 45-year-old Stephen Murphree of Dayton died when his homebuilt single BD-4 crashed one half-mile west of Dayton Valley Airpark. FAA representative Ian Gregor tells us a pilot spotted the wreckage of the upside down single-engine aircraft just before 2:45pm Tuesday.

Murphree was the sole occupant of the plane.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Gregor says he doesn't know when the crash happened.

There's also no immediate information on what caused the crash.
