Nevada's National Guard Awarded Funds to Employ Veterans

The Nevada National Guard is getting a federal cash boost to help unemployed veterans find jobs.

The Secretary of Defense-Reserve Affairs has approved a $650,000 grant, to help jobless or underemployed veterans secure jobs across the silver state.

A portion of the funds will be used to pay for create new positions, specifically assigned to help reservists land job opportunies.

Governor Brian Sandoval says the grant will bolster Nevada's "Green Zone Initiative," and help the state become the most veteran-friendly in the nation.

Right now, Nevada's reservists have an unemployment rate of 8-percent, with another 17-percent listed as "underemployed" statewide.
