Fire crews are mopping up a fire that started at a business in Stead near Mt. McClellan and Bravo Avenue next to the Reno-Stead Airport Thursday afternoon.

There is no word how the fire started just before 2 p.m. but officials say it is burning wooden pallets. Police closed off roads in the area and were concerned about nearby propane tanks.

The property is owned by Quality Supply LLC. Company employees tell Channel 2 the fire started after a machine caught fire, catching pallets on fire.

NV Energy tells us power shut off to 300 customers in surrounding areas as a safety precaution, but service has since been restored.

The Washoe County School District placed Desert Heights Elementary School on a code yellow lockdown as a precaution and to keep all children indoors. That school is also without power at this time.
