Arrest Made in Truckee Neglect Investigation

Posted: Updated:
The Truckee Police Department have made an arrest in the death of an elderly woman in Truckee.

Police were dispatched to the Sierra Village Apartments on May 27, 2014 after reports of a possibly deceased body.

Police arrived and confirmed that 88-year-old Nellie Mulligan had passed away. At the time, Ms. Mulligan was living with her son, David Jenkins.

Investigators say Mulligan's physical state and living conditions were poor and suggested signs of neglect. The cause of death is still being determined but the signs of neglect appear to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is pending.

Jenkins was interviewed by Truckee Police Detectives and was booked at the Nevada County Jail on charges of Cruelty to Elders with Great Bodily Injury and Second Degree Murder.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact Truckee Police Department Investigations Unit at (530)550-2334.
