Washoe County emergency agencies are participating in a full scale "Broken Wing" disaster drill at Reno-Tahoe International Airport Thursday morning.

Between 8 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. nearly 100 volunteers will play victims and injured passengers, while police and paramedics practice all aspects of rapid response.

The exercise will stage on the southwest side of the airport, and will include rushing victims to the hospital.

As a result, Peckham Lane will be closed from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., between Longley Ln. and Airway Dr.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires all airports to hold similar drills every three years, so the last time one happened in town was back in 2011.

In the wake of last year's Asiana Airlines crash in San Francisco, first responders say this year's exercises are especially important to stay sharp.
