The Lyon County Sheriff's Office has located one of two suspects they believe are connected to a rash of backflow water pipe thefts in Fernley.

Deputies were able to locate and arrest 37-year-old Jonathan Strickland of Fernley early Thursday morning, in connection with the thefts. He is charged with Grand Larceny (greater than $3,000), Possession of Burglary Tools, Eluding Police, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Strickland's bail is set at $14,280.

They are still looking for another occupant of a 1986 Chevy S10 pickup truck, that led deputies on a high-speed chase early Wednesday morning.

According to the LCSO, a deputy patrolling the Fernley city limits attempted to stop the truck for having fake Nevada registration just before 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. They say the driver then led the deputy on a high-speed chase through the city. The suspect drove north of Terrible's Casino and into Bureau of Land Management desert. They say due to rough and unsafe terrain, the deputy eventually lost sight of the truck and ended pursuit.

LCSO says deputies later found the truck about two miles north of Terrible's Casino around 7 a.m. They say it appeared that there was a passenger in the truck at the time of the pursuit, but neither suspect was located at that time.

Deputies examined the bed of the truck and found that it was filled with tools commonly used for cutting and removing pipes and fittings that are made of copper or brass.

They later secured a search warrant for the truck and found evidence leading to numerous thefts of  backflow water valves from commercial and residential properties throughout the Fernley area.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information in the identity second suspect to call either the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at 775-463-6600 or Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.
