More Americans Travel This Memorial Day Holiday

Posted: Updated:
Memorial Day is the kick off to the busy summer travel season. AAA estimates that more than 31 million Americans will hit the roads this weekend, and 2.6 million will travel by air this weekend.

Friday, travel at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport was light, and so too were the roads. This is the third busiest Memorial Day holiday rush since 2005 with 2.3 million Utah, Nevada, and Northern Nevada travelers.

“I think that people feel more secure to take vacation right now than in the past,” said Suszanne Parker, an AAA agent at a Sparks location.

They say they’re busy booking trips to places all over the west.

“Northern California, a lot of Yosemite, a lot of Disneyland trips,” said Parker. “A lot of people are going up to San Francisco, Oregon and up the coast.”

Travel was easy at Reno-Tahoe International Airport Friday afternoon, making a lot of passengers we spoke with happy.

“It’s pretty empty,” said Rick Scott of Oklahoma City. “I checked in curb side and walked right through.”

“It’s very easy and not too busy,” said Jeff Eberhart of Pennsylvania. “It’s a nice, modern airport.”
