Southern California authorities have issued an AMBER Alert for a two-year-old boy missing from Los Angeles, believed to be abducted by his father.

California Highway Patrol troopers say Edwin Vargas was abducted early Friday morning in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles. CBS affiliate KCAL reports Edwin's mother was putting him and another child inside her car when Edwin's father stole the 2004 orange Nissan Quest. It has since been located unoccupied in east Los Angeles.

His father, 27-year-old Abraham Vargas, is described as 5'5", 180 pounds and was last seen wearing a red sweater and blue jeans.

LAPD representatives say they believe Vargas is headed to Mexico. KCAL reports the mother, Vargas' ex-girlfriend, has a restraining order filed against him for domestic violence.

If you have any information on this case, you're asked to call 911 or 1-800-843-5678.
