Mike Bolsinger delivered seven innings of one-hit, shutout baseball Wednesday afternoon at Cheney Stadium, leading the Aces to a 3-1 win over the Rainiers.

Reno’s right-hander walked the first batter he faced, Abraham Almonte, then proceeded to retire 21 of the next 23 batters he faced. Bolsinger allowed a one-out single to Leury Bonilla in the third, and a one-out walk to Jesus Montero in the seventh.

He got all the support he needed in the fifth when the Aces started a two-out rally. Blake Lalli got the ball rolling with a base-hit to left, extending his hitting streak to eight games. Nick Ahmed followed with a walk and Tony Campana came through with a liner to left to give the Aces a 1-0 lead.

Reno added a run in the sixth when Tacoma’s shortstop Gabriel Noriega committed a fielding error, which allowed Mike Jacobs to score. They added another run in the eighth when Roger Kieschnick lined a double down the right-field line to score Aaron Cunningham.

After Bolsinger walked Montero in the seventh, he came back to strikeout Humberto Quintero and retired Xavier Avery on a groundout. He allowed one hit over his seven frames and struck out seven.

Will Harris relieved Bolsinger in the eighth and worked around a two-out double by Bonilla to keep the Rainiers off the scoreboard.

Matt Stites opened the ninth by issuing back-to-back walks to Endy Chavez and Ty Kelly. He bounced back to get Montero to bounce into a 6-4-3 double play. It looked like Stites was going to lock down the second shutout in as many games for the Aces but Quintero hit a groundball to short that Ahmed misplayed, allowing Chavez to score. Stites struck out the next batter to earn his third save of the year.

The two teams close the four-game series Thursday night at Cheney Stadium. The Aces turn to right-hander Lucas Harrell (1-0, 4.71) who will go against Rainiers right-hander Jordan Pries (3-2, 1.85). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
