DUI Arrest in Deadly Moped Accident

Posted: Updated:
An early morning accident on Tuesday has left one driver dead, and another arrested for driving under the influence.

Reno Police responded to the intersection of Mae Anne Ave. and McCarran Blvd. just before 1:45 a.m.

There, investigators say a moped heading west had failed to stop for a red light at McCarran Blvd.

When he entered the intersection, the moped was struck by a Dodge truck traveling south, driven by 21-year-old Ericka Vera.

The moped driver was critically injured and taken to the hospital, where he later died. His name is being withheld, pending notification to his next of kin.

At this time, alcohol and drugs appear to be a factor.

Investigators say the driver of the truck has been cooperative, and she was booked into Washoe County Jail on charges of DUI causing death.

Detectives are still investigating, and ask anyone with more information to call Secret Witness at 322-4900.
