From the Regional Transportation Commission:

The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County will host a public meeting on Tuesday, May 20th to discuss planned improvements at the intersection of Mayberry Drive and Hunter Lake Drive. The meeting will be held at Hunter Lake Elementary School located at 909 Hunter Lake Drive in Reno from 5 – 7 pm. A presentation about the project will be given at 5:30 pm.

The roadway was scheduled for reconstruction this year which provided an opportunity to consider safety improvements for pedestrians and motorists enhancing the neighborhood’s livability. The existing traffic signal is old and was programmed to be upgraded as part of the project. Engineering analysis determined that a roundabout would function better at this location and will address the unique road configuration and reduce long term maintenance costs.

A roundabout at the intersection would benefit the community by providing pedestrian safety for school children and residents by reducing traffic speeds and emissions while at the same time providing improved vehicular access and continuous traffic flow.

The RTC project team will meet with residents to provide details about the project and to gather input on the roundabout design which will replace the existing traffic signal.
