Report: Nevada Preschool Spending Among Lowest in Nation

Posted: Updated:
A new report says Nevada has improved in the number of children enrolled in preschool programs but still ranks near the bottom of states when it comes to program spending.

The report released this week by the National Institute for Early Education Research at Rutgers University says just 3% of Nevada 4-year-olds attended preschool in 2012-2013.

The Las Vegas Sun (http://bit.ly/1qD7Orj ) reports Nevada ranked 36th in student enrollment among 41 states with pre-kindergarten programs.

Nationally, 28% of 4-year-olds attended preschool that year. Enrollment levels ranged from 94% in Washington, D.C., to 1% in Minnesota and Rhode Island.

Nevada's per-pupil spending of $2,397 ranked 33rd. Nationally, states spent an average of $4,026 per student on preschool.
