Moms take center stage this weekend. And on Sunday Moms on the Run will take over Foster Field at Reno High School to raise money for local breast cancer patients. The Reno River Festival is also this weekend. And watch out for vampires in downtown Reno at this year’s annual Vampire Crawl. Enjoy!

Friday 5/9

Ronald McDonald House Scholarship Awards

The Ronald McDonald House is there for families in need and right now that charity needs your help. So they’re holding a fundraiser at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. Doors open at 6:30pm

Biggest Little Start-up Fair, 10am-6pm, West Street Market

Tech start-ups are so popular in Reno they have their own area in downtown now called Startup Row. And they are recruiting employees. They’ll be holding a Start up Job Fair in conjunction with UNR at the West Street Market downtown from 10am until 6pm.

Reno Music Project Wildflower Village 

The Wildflower Village is a venue where you can hone your chops in front of a live audience with the Reno Music Project on Friday nights from 7-9.

Biggest Little City Birthday Party Kickoff Event, Lake Mansion 2-5 pm

Fundraiser for Relay for Life American Cancer Society. 5:30pm, Pioneer Underground

South Reno Food Truck Fest, 5-9 pm, Damonte Family Event Center at Sage Hill

Friday nights are family night and food truck night at the Damonte Family Event Center on Sage Hill 5-9 pm

Square Dance and Round Dance Festival

This event will be at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center and it includes both square dancing and round dancing.

Growing Clayton’s (Middle School) Future

It’s their second annual fundraiser and they are being helped out by the Garden Shop Nursery from 5:30-9:30pm.

Vampire Crawl Downtown Reno

They’ve moved this popular pub crawl from Saturday night to Friday and from February to May. The fun starts at 8pm in downtown Reno.

Reno River Festival

Music, food and lots of kayakers will celebrate the Truckee River and kick off the special events season in Reno. Competition starts at 10 a.m.

Jackpot of Gems Gem Show, Reno Livestock Events Center

Chili on the Comstock Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm

They expect 40 chili chefs to take part in this two-day chili cook off that takes over Virginia City.

Big Mama’s Show and Shine

This show-and-shine will help raise money for the Senior Services in Douglas County. It runs from 10am - 3 pm in Lampe Park.

Letter Carriers Food Drive

Last week the letter carrier put little something extra in your mailbox. And they are hoping for a little something extra back this week. They are holding their annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive to Stamp out Hunger. They left you a plastic bag for you to fill with canned goods. Leave it by your mail box and they’ll do the rest.

Junk the Junipers

Fire officials say one way to protect your property from fire is to create defensible space - and they say one of the worst trees to have near your house is a juniper. So this weekend they are encouraging you to junk the junipers and if you take them in they will chip them up and put them to good use.

KTMB Annual Clean-up 8-noon

Last year the Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful group collected 700 tires and 74 tons of trash from Northern Nevada’s open spaces and illegal dump sites. This year they are inviting volunteers to help out at a list of sites, which you can find on their website.


Astronomy Day at Sparks Marina

Local astronomers will hold Astronomy Day at the Sparks Marina from 3pm-10 pm. They’ll have telescopes to view sunspots during the daytime and the planets after dark.

Reno River Festival 

The Reno River Festival continues with competitions from 10am - 4 pm with awards at 6 p.m.

Moms on the Run at Reno High

Again this year Foster Field at Reno High School will be a sea of pink on Mother’s Day. The Moms on the Run event raises money for local breast cancer patients. Registration and breakfast at 7 am.
