Sparks Police, along with Modesto Police, say they’ve arrested a man accused of kidnapping two girls and sexually assaulting one of them inside a hotel room.

Sparks officers say they were contacted by Modesto Police on Tuesday regarding the possible kidnapping of two girls, and that the trio could be at John Ascuaga’s Nugget. Once contacted there, all three were taken to the Sparks Police Department for interviews.

During that interview, officers say they learned the suspect, Nicholas Wessel, drove the girls, who ran away from home, from Modesto to Sparks where he rented a room at the Nugget. One of the girls was acquainted to Wessel.

Inside the room, they say he had non-consensual sex with the 14-year-old girl and later found Wessel’s camera containing several illegal images of children, including some of the 14-year-old. But others they say remain unknown to authorities at this time.

The two girls were not physically hurt and taken to Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center.

Wessel was taken to Washoe County Jail and booked on charges of two counts of kidnapping, sexual assault, production of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
