City Council to Hold Budget Workshop, Medical Marijuana Meeting

Posted: Updated:
The Reno City Council is set to hold their second budget workshop Wednesday morning, to put the finishing touches on the city's plan for taxpayer dollars in the next fiscal year.

A joint session is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Council members and city planning commissioners will discuss a number of issues, including the final plan to save 15 firefighting jobs, after losing a federal grant led to layoffs for dozens.

Wednesday afternoon, another joint session will convene at 4:00 p.m., to host a discussion on medical marijuana establishments within city limits.

Proposed zoning would allow medical dispensaries in most commercial zones, including the downtown area, as long as buildings are at least 300 feet from residential zones.

Council staffers are still analyzing financial impacts for the city, taking application fees and tax revenue into account.
