Free Mammograms This Weekend in Reno

Posted: Updated:
Mammography is the gold standard in detecting breast cancer. The problem, is not every woman has insurance to pay for this vital screening. Thanks to a local company, the problem is solved. Reno Diagnostic Center is hosting an event called Mammos for Mother's Day. This Saturday, you can get a free mammogram at RDC's location on Eureka Avenue near downtown Reno.

The Mammos for Mother's Day event is first come first served. It runs from 8am until 4:20pm. The goal is to serve as many women as possible who don't have insurance.

Terri Mahannah is with RDC. "The plan is to accommodate as many women as possible on that day. And anybody we can't accommodate we're getting help from the Komen Foundation and Community Health Alliance and also Pinocchio's to see how we can accommodate the women that we can't fit in that day.

Here's the criteria to qualify for a free mammogram:
You have to be at least 40 years old
       You can't have insurance
You can't have any signs or symptoms of a problem
You can't have had a mammogram in the past 12 months

This is strictly a screening mammogram.

Again, the even this Saturday, May 10th at Reno Diagnostic Center on Eureka Avenue. It's first come first served. For more information, call 323-5083.
